The Gone Bus

The Gone Bus

In London, UK

I was looking at pictures from my trip to UK summer 2009, and it made me nostalgic.

If you wish to see the complete set from that period, just click here

You can do anything you chose to do

Someone was hurt before you, wronged before you, hungry before you, frightened before you, beaten before you, humiliated before you, raped before you… yet, someone survived… You can do anything you choose to do.

Quick Update

Quick Update

Hey Lovelies,

this is just a small update notification for you, so that you know what’s going on around here!

  1. I updated the website layout, and I am really loving it! It reminds me alot of the tumblr style which is very nice and practical (especially for you as you will be browsing the posts)
  2. I also added a FAQ link to the navigation. Right now it doesn’t show any questions, but I am sure you will find a way to fill it up with your questions, right? It is there for you to use. And I always check my notifications on a daily basis so don’t be shy and ASK A QUESTION :)
  3. If you take a look at the sidebar, you will find there all the ways you can get in touch with me and stay connected with my website! If you haven’t done so yet, follow me on twitter and like my facebook page!
  4. If you take a look at the footer, you can see an exerpt of my flickr stream (the last pictures posted) and also access my tweets, the tags and the archives!

And that’s pretty much it for today! I am still working on rearanging things here and there. But don’t worry, you will get notified in a post similar to this one ;) Oh and if there is anything you’d like to see more of on my website, feel free to drop you suggestions via email :)

Hope everyone is having a great week!

xoxo

Today was a great day. It was warm, and perfect for shopping.  Vivi, Natsumi & I went to the mall, and I just fell in love with a pair of UGGs & my newly acquired SKAGEN watch. While composing this post for you guys, I also thought it would be nice – besides showcasing my recent buys – share with you things, people, websites etc. that I crushed on this week. I will make it a weekly habit of course. Hope you like it! You can always send me recommendations via my email or twitter! Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Aujourd’hui fut merveilleux.

Africa.Tribal Prints. And how designers make money on our culture…

Africa.Tribal Prints. And how designers make money on our culture…

2011 was marked by the introduction of what people like to call the “tribal prints“.I remember four years ago, when I was walking around my college campus in my “tribal” dress aka Kaba, people where asking what I was wearing,  mentioning that it looked odd and also seemed like a night gown… well 3 years later and after stars like Beyonce, Alicia Keys started to  show off they love for tribal prints, the world started looking with a different eye on the African style. And now that we are in 2012, and that the tribal fashion is getting stronger in the Western civilizations, what do I see? The same type of dress I wear around home (see picture) and even outside when I am back home in Cameroon. The dress, made exactly the same way as what a seamstress in Cameroon would do for you for a modest price of 2500 FCFA ( ~ $5) is sold in the UK by Easton Pearson for £865 ($1340). SAY WHAT?  I am shocked, and revolted at the same time. I laugh. But I it is not funny at all. I feel like the designers are making money on behalf of our culture, and then they will call it their creations, when our mothers and grandmothers have been carrying the traditional outfits from generation to generations.  I would much more appreciate if those so called famous designers would hire African seamstresses – who don’t make much on a daily basis – to work for them for the so called “tribal” collection. Or better, if the stars would stop purchasing the tribal clothing from famous designers, just because it will look better, and instead promote the economy in Africa by hiring themselves people from the African countries to sew their African clothes. But we are far from that, aren’t we? Oh well…
